Elaine was a righteous woman who was a passionate supporter for Israel and who committed herself to prayer.
It has been many years since she passed away from this life but she left us a reminder of her support for Hebron - an oak tree.
She propagated the tree from an acorn and then gave us the sapling, which has continued to grow well and straight despite poor soil and horrendous winds.
When I occasionally wander down to see how it's doing and admire how much growth it has put on over the years I think about the legacy that she has left. Elaine loved nature and all that it has to offer; being an avid bushwalker all her life. She wanted to see Hebron planted with many trees and I'm sure if she were to see Hebron now she would smile.
Granted, it's not the same species of oak as spoken of in the scripture but naturally there's the tendency to cast your mind to the oak trees of Mamre where Abraham pitched his tents. I wonder if he knew the journey his life would take? Did he walk under the oak trees and meditate on the promises that Yehovah had given him? Did he think about the future of this mighty nation that his descendants would become?
One day maybe we can sit under Elaine's tree and consider the future that will unfold. An oak tree is not like an acacia, which has such a short lifespan; oak trees are for generations. As we develop this property for the future generations as a place of refuge in troubled times may they find shelter and shalom here. Developing infrastructure is one thing but developing community is quite another and in this we rely on Yehovah to lead us, counsel us, guide us and encourage us.
I look forward to observing Pesach together as we give thanks for Yeshua our Messiah.
