Sukkot 2017

Sukkot was a wonderful time of fun, fellowship and friendship.  Hebron was filled with the noise of children, chatter, music, motorbikes, dogs and the ding-dong of the mealtime bell.  It was busy, it was chaotic and it was marvellous.     We had daily times of scripture and prayer, and weather permitting we sat under the sukkah.   It's these times that bring such encouragement on our journey along this narrow road.       Sukkot is a wonderful opportunity to put the busyness of life aside for a while to renew our hope in the coming of Messiah Yeshua and celebrate His lovingkindness and mercy.     What a blessing Hebron is.  We had perfect weather for a picnic by the dam and kite flying, and of course the annual cricket match.     And Sukkot at Hebron wouldn't be the same without the Hebron Follies!  We were entertained by musical prowess, wit and humour.      During our evenings we chatted through the first few chapters of Romans b

Sukkot in Adelaide 2017

Shabbat Shalom! What a gorgeous full moon it is, heralding in the moed of Sukkot.  Shame my camera isn't up to the task, but if you look outside you can appreciate what I'm saying!  A touch cloudy and windy, but marvellous nonetheless. Hebron is ready to welcome the community - the gardens look fabulous (thanks Parkers!), the house is ready, the tanks are full and anticipation is high.  What will this week of Sukkot bring I wonder?  Much joy, fellowship, laughter and praise I'm sure.  Times of scripture, times of prayer, times of praise, times of reflection....times of challenge, times of stone-against-stone, times of frustration maybe, but all of the positives and and all of the challenges are what makes community a blessing. What wisdom and foresight of our Father and Creator!  Personally I much preferred my years of aloneness (is that such a word I wonder?).  There were very few challenges against my personality, values and views.  There was such peace!  True, it w

Psalmist or Troubadour?

In my last post I mentioned that I wanted to outline my perspective on the importance and purpose of musical praise in times of gathering together. I have been involved in providing music and leading praise for nearly 40 years and it still remains one of my greatest joys.  Music is wonderful gift from YHVH and it has the power and ability to connect our hearts to our Father and also to each other.  It's a mystery and one that intrigues me.  I want to make a distinction up front between music that is for the purpose of bringing a praise offering in our gatherings and moedim, and music that is used for entertainment.  It is my firm view that the two should never mingle.  It is human nature to want to be entertained, however, our gatherings and moedim is not the time nor the place.  I believe it requires an element of discernment and a huge helping of humility to keep free of the seductive temptress that is Entertainment . Really? Entertainment lures genuine worshippers of

He Provides Rain for the Earth....

After an extremely dry autumn we have had an abundance of rain this last month.  When we experience a dry season it's always a reminder that it is only the Creator who sends the rain and it falls on the righteous and the unrighteous.  We are dependent on Him for every breath, every drop of rain and every dollar that we earn. There are ups and downs, good seasons, dry seasons, a time for joy and a time for mourning, but above all He is good and His lovingkindness endures forever. Great is our Adonai and mighty in power His understanding is infinite Here at Hebron the lambing season is progressing well, although we have lost a couple of  lambs to foxes, which are particularly numerous this year.  We are going to have to get a few shooters out to deal with the growing numbers of rabbits and foxes unfortunately. YHVH upholds the humble He brings the wicked to the ground We will be welcoming the Parker family to Hebron shortly, who are relocating to South Australia

Covenantal Community

This blog has been moth-balled for a while but I've shaken out the dust and will now periodically post updates, photos or pass comment on something that takes my interest.  You know how I love to wax lyrical on occasion. It's been a very busy few months with people coming and going and the preparation and celebration of Yehovah's feasts.  We always have a plethora of projects and jobs that we have on our to-do list but Hebron ticks along nicely now.  However, being content with the now and the not yet is easier for me, or maybe I'm just a bit older and busier. Over the years Hebron's purpose hasn't really changed all that much; we are still very much focused on the community that is being developed and to a lesser extent, the ability for Hebron to be self-sufficient.  Having said that our flock is now to a size where the property can happily sustain it and they are healthy and well-bred.  The vege garden could always do with some extra time and lovin' bu

Elaine's Tree

Elaine was a righteous woman who was a passionate supporter for Israel and who committed herself to prayer. It has been many years since she passed away from this life but she left us a reminder of her support for Hebron - an oak tree. She propagated the tree from an acorn and then gave us the sapling, which has continued to grow well and straight despite poor soil and horrendous winds.   When I occasionally wander down to see how it's doing and admire how much growth it has put on over the years I think about the legacy that she has left.  Elaine loved nature and all that it has to offer; being an avid bushwalker all her life.  She wanted to see Hebron planted with many trees and I'm sure if she were to see Hebron now she would smile. Granted, it's not the same species of oak as spoken of in the scripture but naturally there's the tendency to cast your mind to the oak trees of Mamre where Abraham pitched his tents.  I wonder if he knew the journey his lif

Hebron Happenings....

It's been an age since I updated the blog on what's been happening up here in the Hills so my conscience has gotten the better of me and tonight is the night. Summer is a busy time and as with most things in life, there's never enough time to accomplish all that you want, but we've been blessed with good rains this season so watering hasn't been as high a priority.  The bottom dam is full and even the top dam is keeping a good level.  We don't utilise the top dam but the frogs, ducks and dragon flies are appreciative.  It's also a favourite spot to sit at the end of the day.  To be honest there are times when it can be a bit difficult taking care of Hebron and one of those times is when the machinery breaks down.  Last month the tractor, the air conditioner, the mower and the ute all decided they were going on strike and I considered joining them!  Thankfully the difficult days are few and it only takes a moment to take in the close of a day for my
