As I was watering the house plants this morning I thought I'd pop up a photo of the old hand plough and tell the story of why this is so meaningful. This was part of a trailer load of stuff we inherited from Flea and I've always loved seeing it in the yard.
This hand plough is a constant reminder of Jeremiah 4:1-4 "For thus says YHVH to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem, "Break up your fallow ground, And do not sow among thorns. Circumcise yourselves to YHVH and remove the foreskins of your heart, Men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, Or else My wrath will go forth like fire and burn with none to quench it, because of the evil of your deeds."
Interestingly the road just up from Hebron is called Humbles Road and sometimes as I drive past it on the way home I quote Isaiah 57:15 to myself "For thus says the high and exalted One Who lives forever, whose name is Kadosh (set apart), "I dwell on a high and set apart place, And also with the contrite and humble of spirit in order to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the contrite."
The Adelaide North Terrace war memorial depicts an "angel of duty" overshadowing a farmer with a plough, a student and a girl and my youngest daughter had a dream a few years back of a golden hand plough just like this and I remember distinctly how excited she got when she saw the war memorial, as it pictured her dream exactly. The plough in her dream was precious and to be guarded at all costs and this speaks of Yehovah's torah. I have always linked that war memorial statue with our humble little hand plough ever since.
So for me this old hand plough is a reminder to allow the Word of Yehovah to plough up the hardness of my heart so that I can be supple and humble, allowing His Spirit to revive, restore and envision me. It's all too easy to become self focused, allowing the cares and hurts of this world and life to settle in my heart, so isn't our Father so compassionate in giving us His Word to guide and strengthen us.
The result of our obedience to Him and His ways is that we become fruitful and allow His Spirit to well up in us and bless those around us. Hallelu Yah! His kindness, compassion and mercy is always towards those who are humble and obedient.
I look forward to the day when Hebron is a blessing to many more people, both physically and spiritually; so may Yehovah continue to provide the resources as we remain faithful.
Shalom
