It's been quite a while since I popped up a post about the happenings here at Hebron so thought it was about time I shared some photos and news, after all, I shouldn't be the only one to enjoy this plot of earth.
The summer months can be challenging time as there are more tasks to attend to but it also provides more chances to get to know the property a bit better and watch the growth of the trees.
We endured a dry spring so the pasture has been lacking over the summer. One of the benefits of running a Damara flock of sheep is they excel in dry, harsh environments so they are in good condition. We sent off a few older ewes as well as a number of young wether lambs to the butcher. One of the lambs will be for Pesach, which is only a few weeks away.
One of the more unpleasant tasks has been in dealing with the caltrope curse, commonly known as three-cornered jack, or if you're a Victorian, bindi. Unfortunately after spending many hours pulling it out of the Bidgebar paddock we find it's popped up in a section of the middle paddock and the smaller driveway paddock. This is now an ongoing management and it may be a few years before we kick it in the head.
Last week I put a super box on the hives and was very pleased with the way they've increased in number and how they're busily storing up honey. I'll open them again in a few weeks and we may be able to harvest a frame or two of honey before they bunker down for the winter.
We're in our tenth year here at Hebron and after a slow start we are now seeing good growth in our fruit trees and flock management. Naturally we were full of romantic idealism when we bought the property but it's been through much sweat and tears that things have progressed. But isn't that a true biblical principal? YHVH wonderfully brought Israel to their land of promise but it was through their willingness to do battle that He was able to bring them the victory.
There is much we need and want to achieve - fencing, hot house, aquaponics, landscaping, trees, trees and more trees - so through continued dedication Hebron is becoming a fruitful and productive property where this messianic community is forging relationship and honouring the name of YHVH.
The capers did not progress well this season. They did not receive fertilizer and we had a cool summer so possibly those two factors had an impact on them. However, there are quite a few that have a good root system so we'll see what happens with them next year.
In a few weeks we will be coming together at Hebron to remember and celebrate Pesach. What a privilege to be able to do so with a community of messianic believers who desire to honour Yeshua's gift of love and redemption by obeying YHVH's commands.
May the name of YHVH be lifted high!
Thanks for the update Annette. Keeps us informed and inspired.
ReplyDeleteNice photos of the property and its development.
Hebron is certainly a place that says "come aside and rest awhile."
We are a blessed people.
